Last Updated: 22 October 2025
Revision: Added Meta (Facebook) App Events for analytics and ad attribution.
Thank you for choosing caloTrac to help track your meals and calorie intake. Your privacy is important to us. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, protect, and share your information when you use our app.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 User Login Data
We collect and store your email address and name when you create an account. This information is used for authentication and account management purposes.
1.2 Meal Entry Data
When you submit a meal via photo or text prompt:
- We process this data through a third-party AI system.
- Only the photo or text prompt is shared with the AI for inference purposes; no personal data accompanies it.
1.3 Inference Results
The output from the AI (nutritional information such as fats, carbs, proteins, calories, and food components) is stored in your account. This data, referred to as Meal Entries, helps you track your dietary habits.
1.4 Analytics and Tracking Data
We use Google Analytics and Firebase to collect anonymized usage data, such as:
- Events like user registrations, trial button clicks, and inferences.
- Device information (e.g., operating system, app version).
This data helps us improve app functionality and measure our advertising efforts to promote our app. - Meta App Events: We collect event data (like app installs, registrations, and inferences) to measure the effectiveness of our own advertising on Meta’s platforms. To improve this measurement, we may securely share your anonymized user ID with Meta.
1.5 Advertising and AdMob
We use Google AdMob to serve advertisements in the free tier of caloTrac. These include rewarded ads, where users may watch an ad to earn additional meal inferences or scanning credits.
AdMob may collect non-personally identifiable information such as:
- Device identifiers (e.g., Android Advertising ID or Apple Identifier for Advertisers)
- Interaction data (e.g., ad views, clicks, completion of rewarded ads)
- General device information (e.g., model, OS version, app version)
No personally identifiable data (such as your name or email) is shared with AdMob. All ads comply with Google’s advertising policies.
2. How We Use Your Information
2.1 Account Management
Your login data is used to authenticate access to caloTrac and allow you to retrieve stored meal entries across devices.
2.2 Meal Tracking
Your meal entries and associated nutritional information are securely stored to help you monitor your dietary habits over time.
2.3 Service Improvement
We analyze anonymized, aggregated data to improve app functionality and user experience.
2.4 Advertising and Conversion Tracking
We use data from our analytics and ad partners (Google and Meta) to:
- Serve rewarded video ads via AdMob.
- Measure ad conversions and attribution (i.e., understand how users find our app).
- Analyze app usage to improve features. We do not display ads from Meta within the app. All advertising-related data is handled as described in this policy.
3. Data Protection
3.1 Secure Storage
We implement encryption and access control measures to protect your data. Only your email, name, and meal entry data are stored securely on our backend.
3.2 Third-Party AI Processing
Any photo or text prompt you submit is processed securely by a third-party AI provider. No personally identifiable information is sent to this provider aside from the photo or text itself.
3.3 Third-Party Analytics and Ad Services
Our partners (Firebase, AdMob, Google Ads, and Meta App Events) collect anonymized usage data for analytics and advertising purposes. We do not share your sensitive personal meal data with them. You can opt out of personalized ads and tracking through your device settings (see Section 5.2).
4. Data Sharing
4.1 Third-Party Providers
We may share anonymized or aggregated data with trusted third-party providers (e.g., Firebase, AdMob, Google Ads, and Meta App Events) to improve app functionality, serve ads, and measure conversions.

We may disclose your information if required to comply with legal obligations or to protect our rights and property.
